Meet Brooks, Founder of Dairy Free Recipes

I’m Brooks, the home cook behind Dairy Free Recipes. Thank you for being here — where simple swaps, family-tested meals, and the joy of cooking completely without dairy all come together.

Why Dairy-Free?

For me, dairy-free isn’t about giving things up — it’s about keeping everyone at the table. When my son was diagnosed with a milk allergy in 2020, our kitchen changed overnight, and I learned that food made without dairy can still be rich, creamy, and full of flavor.

My Story

I grew up in California in a house where the kitchen was the center of everything — weekend baking, big family dinners, and the smell of something always in the oven. Cooking was how we showed up for each other.

Everything changed in 2020, when my young son was diagnosed with a milk allergy. Overnight, the recipes I’d made my whole life were off-limits: the creamy sauces, the buttery cookies, the cheesy weeknight dinners. I refused to let him feel like he was missing out — so I started rebuilding our favorites, one dairy-free swap at a time.

What began as a few scribbled experiments turned into hundreds of recipes, every one cooked and taste-tested in my own kitchen until it was good enough for my family. Dairy Free Recipes is where I share them with yours.

Why Dairy-Free?

Going dairy-free taught me a few lessons that shape every recipe on this site:

  • Flavor comes first: dairy-free should never taste like a compromise — creamy, rich, and satisfying is the whole point.
  • Simple swaps win: coconut, oat, almond, and cashew do the heavy lifting, with everyday ingredients you can actually find.
  • Food brings people together: when a meal is allergy-friendly, everyone at the table can eat the same thing — and that matters.

This blog is my way of helping you cook with confidence — whether you’re managing a milk allergy, living with lactose intolerance, or simply eating more plant-based.

Let’s Create Together

This isn’t just a blog — it’s a community. I’d love to hear your story:
